Living History

Living History is an educational medium which aims to be more involving and entertaining than other mediums and give the public a more life-like or "living" snapshot of a historical scenario. Wolfguard specializes in Living History from the Viking age, and this incorporates a huge range of daily tasks, such as pastimes, hand-crafts, games, and of course, combat; and shows the range of clothing and materials that might have been used at the time.

Living history techniques within our society include :

Authentic Cooking - Leather Working - Silversmithing - Blacksmithing - Scrimshaw (carving horn and bone) - Embroidery - Tablet Weaving Nålebinding  - Clothes Making - Shield Making - Woodworking

We do this in a number of ways, we can provide a Viking encampment where the public can observe us going about our daily tasks, or we can provide more interactive experiences such as trying out a Viking craft or game, or dressing up as a Viking warrior!

We can also provide more "lecture" style events where we discuss Viking life with the public.

Whilst we strive to be as authentic as practical, we are sometimes limited in this regard by considerations such as safety (e.g. we encourage our fighters to use gloves and shields), cost (e.g. the use of solid materials for shields and swords to ensure durability), time constraints (such as the use of machine stitching on non-visible clothing) and simply lack of available definitive information.
